Congratulations to Ellie Clawson, a senior at Issaquah High School. She has been selected as a Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria Scholar Athlete by the Issaquah Booster Club and Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria. Issaquah Cross Country Coach, Gwen Robertson, writes: “Ellie has been a 4-year varsity athlete on the girls’ cross country team. She has qualified and competed in the State Meet every year. As a junior last year she earned “All State” honors. Ellie has helped with the summer training program for returning and new athletes. She is a very positive person who encourages and helps her teammates.” Ellie has participated in varsity cross country and varsity track and field for four years and has received the following awards: Most Inspirational for Cross Country in 2013 and 2014, and Scholar Athlete for seven seasons,. While maintaining at GPA of about 3.93, Ellie has been very active inside and outside IHS. At school, Ellie has been on the ASB Inter-District Student Council as an Inter-High Representative, ASB Toga Director, and a member of Eagle Crew. In the IHS community, she has been a lifeguard and swim instructor for two years, in the Friends for Life Guild, a peer tutor in math, Spanish and English, a Voice Mentor for elementary students including organizing other people to help in subjects from elementary to high school, and has been an Issaquah Gliders coach for Pre-K to 8th grade. Ellie is an exemplary scholar athlete. Her hard work and dedication have made her a shining example to represent Issaquah high School. Issaquah Tennis Coach, Gary Kiyonaga, nominated Sam and writes: “Mr. Samuel Reardon is a great man. He knows great people are not perfect but are guided by the many decisions made each day. Sam knows the path to being a great man is a simple one but he is aware that this path requires diligence and hard work every day. For two seasons Sam has captained the Varsity Men’s Tennis Team as a great man. The team was voted the “Sportsmanship Award” by the Kingco League under Sam’s leadership. This award was in large part a testament to Sam’s ability to lead and impart his values to the culture of the team.” While maintaining a GPA of 3.9, Sam participated in tennis for 4 years, 3 of them on the varsity team, and was Team Captain for two seasons. Sam is a member of the National Honor Society, is a member of the National and State Sports Medicine Winner Team and 8th nationally in individual competition. He is also an Eagle Scout. Outside of IHS, Sam is very involved in the community. He is a Certified Professional Rescuer, a member of the Boy Scouts of America, an Opportunist Youth of America, and a volunteer tennis instructor to underprivileged youth. Sam is an exemplary scholar athlete. His hard work and dedication have made him a shining example to represent Issaquah High School. She has been selected as a Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria Scholar Athlete by the Issaquah Booster Club and Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria. Issaquah Volleyball Coaches Amanda Sewell and Barry LeMond nominated Rachel and write: “We are nominating Rachel due to her great leadership skills on and off the court as well as her ability to excel in school and outside of school. She is always pushing to be the best that she can be.” Rachel has been playing volleyball since she fell in love with the sport at age 11 at a Skyhawks volleyball summer camp. Athletic honors include selection for the 2014 Under Armour Watch List and the WBA International team setter to travel to Brazil. In 2014, she was a Division 2 champion for WBA U18, and a team captain. In 2013, she received the following honors and awards, AVCA Phenom List, Honorable Mention Kingco 4A, IHS Varsity Captain, 1st place gold medal USAV Junior Olympic Patriot Division: KJVC U16, High Performance Camp PSR (setter), and Puget Sound Regional Champions: KJVBC U16. Other awards include 2012 Honorable Mention Kingco 4A, 2011 Varsity Letter, and 2012 Coaches Award at Issaquah Middle School. Academic honors include: National Honor Society 2013-14 and 2014-15 and several honors and AP classes. At IHS, Rachel also participated in DECA 1 and 2 and state competitions, Sports Medicine, assembly involvement, and is an active volunteer for IHS activities. In the community, Rachel is a camp counselor, a Puget Sound Volleyball Associations referee, and a Girl Scouts Volunteer Counselor. Rachel is an exemplary scholar athlete. Congratulations to Gunnar Conley, a senior at Issaquah High School. He has been selected as a Tutta Bella Neopolitan Pizzeria Scholar Athlete by the Issaquah Booster Club and Tutta Bella Neopolitan Pizzeria. Issaquah Football Coach, Buddy Bland, nominated Gunnar. He has been team captain, has worked very hard to establish himself as a starter, shows leadership to the team, and demonstrates good sportsmanship. Off the field, he is in good academic standing and is involved in the IHS community. While maintaining a GPA of about 3.5, Gunnar has been a participant in IHS football for 4 years. Other school activities he has been involved in include DECA and iVision. In the community, Gunnar has been involved with Athletes For Kids and is an Eagle Scout. Gunnar is an exemplary scholar athlete. His hard work and dedication have made him a shining example to represent Issaquah High School. Issaquah Swim and Dive Coach, Laura Halter, writes: “I have known Ella for 10 years in the capacity of her swim coach when she was young and currently as her High School swim coach. I have had the pleasure of watching Ella grow up to be a wonderful, lovely young lady. She has always displayed great sportsmanship, work ethic and teamwork. She is a true friend and an upstanding citizen.” As an athlete, “Ella is currently serving as the captain of her high school swim team. She has had many duties this fall that involved being very organized and forward thinking. She has managed the ordering of the team’s logo wear and helps to organize team social events. She is a very efficient communicator and is very proficient at making sure that projects are completed on time. She works very well with the other captains and acts as the leader for them. She is a great team captain in the pool as well, always showing great work ethic and sportsmanship.” In addition to Swim Team, Ella is a very good student and outstanding lacrosse player on her high school and club teams.
