VOLLEYBALL ~ Are YOU the next Coach that will take these girls to State!?
HELP NEEDED to find the next Head Volleyball Coach for Issaquah High School! After months posted on ISD and State websites, there are still no applicants SPREAD THE WORD. At this time it looks like neither the middle school camp or Gold Medal Squared will happen. TRACK & FIELD
On Thursday IHS hosted their first meet of the season against Mt Si. The ladies came in 1st place and the men placed 2nd. We had some impressive performances all around with Sam Griffith and Julia David-Smith placing 1st in the 1600m. Cooper Holy clinched the pole vault win as well as the 200m and Grace Cavotta won both the 100 and 200m! Sophomore Matt Wilkenson dominated the hurdles. Overall the Eagles had an awesome season opener under sunny skies.
This week: Thursday 3/28 at Skyline at 4:00pm. Come on over and cheer on our athletes against our rivals.
SOFTBALL
It was a tough week on the diamond for the softball team as they faced off against traditionally strong teams. Losing 14-0, 12-0 an 14-1 to North Creek, Woodinville and Inglemoor. Junior captain Clara Wolff broke up no hit bids in both the North Creek and Woodinville games by providing the only hit in each game. Freshman Issy Neville provided the offensive scoring this week with a solo home run against Inglemoor. Freshmen Hannah Hildebrant, Marissa Tremblay and Sophomore captain Kelly Hruza collected the other hits in the game.
This week: Issaquah hosts Eastlake on Wednesday, 4:30. They play at Mt Si Monday and Bothell Friday at 4pm.
BOYS' LACROSSE
Varsity (1-5) - very busy last week. Dropping a 2-17 to Mercer Island, Winning a 11-3 vs Roosevelt and dropping a 3-8 game to Highlands Ranch (CO). Points earned this week from Gunter(6), Moss(5), Berntsen(4), Liddle(4), Morton(2). Caje Gunter gather a total of 33 ground balls this week alone.
Junior Varsity (1-2) - split games this week. Dropping a 1-19 game to Mercer Island and with an OT win over Shorecrest 7-6. Points earned this week from Powell(4), Chin(3), Victory(2), Nichols(1), Mendoza(1).

GIRLS' TENNIS
Varsity: Monday, 3/19, the team was defeated, away at Mercer High, 0-7. Our team fought hard in the heat but ultimately was defeated 7-0. Jeewon Jung had the most competitive match of the day going to a third set tie-breaker, but just fell short. For Varsity Scores, Click Here
Tuesday, 3/20, the Varsity team lost at Liberty High, 1-6. Sayaka Kenmochi won her singles match 6-3, 6-4! Eileen Kim and Maddy Ro had close game and took their match to a tie breaker. 6-1, 3-6, 10-8. The team was defeated 6-1. Varsity Scores Click Here
Junior Varsity: Monday, 3/19, The team hosted Mercer Island. The format was a shotgun start on all six courts. As soon as two courts finished, then all other courts stopped playing. This format enabled coaches to try out more single players and allows single players to play as doubles later on. Round 1 was six singles. Shelby Wengreen won 6-1. Ellie Wilson was close at 3-4. Round 2 and 3 were doubles. Alyssa Helgesen and Zoe Sevart were ahead at 5-4. Alex Dunn-Cordova and Siena Gaston were close at 3-4. Shelby Wengreen and Malisa Nguyen played the second time as doubles and were close at 2-3.
Tuesday, 3/20, the Junior Varsity team hosted and beat Liberty High, 4-3! For the singles matches: Ellie Wilson: won 8-4. Julia Shields won 8-6. Nicole Lee came through in tiebreak and won 8-7 (7-5 in tiebreak). For the doubles: Alex Dunn-Cordova/Siena Gaston won 8-6. For the exhibitions: Remi Ragland/Liv Ollestad won 8-0. Alyssa Helgesen/Zoe Sevart lost but they kept it close at 6-7.
BASEBALL
Today the Issaquah High Baseball program hosted the annual Issaquah Little League (ILL) Clinic Fundraiser. Players from all three teams ran the Little League aspiring Eagles through skills and drills stations on the IHS Field. Our Eagle players felt the pride as they reminisce about when they were attending these camps years ago. Win-win for all! See the pictures on Facebook/twitter tonight.
Varsity 2-1 KingCo: Monday, the Eagles opened up league play with a blowout win against North Creek at home, 8-1. Senior Tyler Odegard dominated on the hill giving up only one run in the contest without issuing a single walk. However, the excitement came in the bottom of the sixth when Senior Lucas Senatore hit a grand slam homerun to seal the deal for the Eagles.
Wednesday, in a nail bitter, the boys beat Woodinville at home, 6-5. Eagle’s pitcher Senior Nathan Gunderson put up goose eggs out of the pen to notch his first win of the season. At the plate, Senior Lucas Senatore stayed productive with two RBIs and steeling two bases.
Friday the Eagles got beat by Inglemoor 5-2. The Eagles bats struggled as Inglemoor’s starting pitcher sat down the first nine Eagles in order. Junior Joseph Warner took over on the hill in the second with the bases loaded to change the mojo for the Eagles getting the out of a jam. Issaquah’s two runs came in the 4th when Lucas Senatore and Tyler Reese led off the inning with singles and eventually scored. Down by 3, the Eagles had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the 7th, but came up empty.
Junior Varsity, 1-2 KingCo: Mon, 3/18; defeated at North Creek, 1-5. North Creek’s excellent pitching limited Issy to just one hit (Gavin Clark). By contrast, North Creek pounded out (9) hits. Pitcher John Herd got the start for the Eagles, going (3) innings, giving up (1) earned run, with (4) strikeouts and (2) walks. However, Issy errors allowed (4) runs to be scored. Down 0-4, Cade Stenzel came in for relief, pitching (3) innings, giving up (1) run, striking out (1), and gave up (0) walks. Issy left (6) men on base during the game.
Wed, 3/20; Big win over Woodinville, 11-1. The story of the game was Issy’s starting pitcher, John Mehr, who went all (7) innings on the mound (103 pitches) for the win. Issy led the whole way. Lead-off hitter Cody Chan lead the attack and finished 2-3, with (2) runs scored. Shane White lead the Eagles with 4 RBI. Tommy Brown hit a monster triple in the top of the seventh, but suffered a dislocated pinky finger sliding safely into third base. However, that proved to be the spark Issy needed, as the team went on to score eight runs in the top of the seventh.
Fri, 3/22; Inglemoor notched the at home, 1-4. The game was driven by two stats: stolen bases (7) and hits (9). Issy was limited to four hits, and had two errors that proved costly. Starting pitcher, Trevor Chan, went four innings giving up (2) earned runs, striking out (1), and walking (1). William Warner came in for the final three innings, giving up (1) run, on (2) strikeouts, and (3) walks. Pitcher Ryan Garcia came in late to get the final out in the seventh inning. All of the Issy’s hits came from the top half of the order: Cody Chan (1-3), Gavin Clark (1-3), John Herd (1-2) and Jeremy Dondoyano (1-3).
CTeam, 4-1 KingCo: Tue, 3/19: Crushed Bellevue, 24-0. Not to be outdone by the JV squad, the C-Team exploded for a 21 run inning against an overmatched Bellevue team, winning 24-0. Chase Nagel and Nick Imler combined to pitch a one-hit shutout. Henry Hess, Dom Giustino, Joey Wilner, Steven Moore, and Chase Nagel all recorded multiple hits.
Thurs 3/21: Win over Mt Si, 9-3. After an early pitchers duel, the C-Team exploded with a 7 run 5th inning and eventual 9-3 victory over a stout Mount Si squad. Dom Giustino led the way with 4 shutout innings on the mound and contributed to the offense with 2 hits. Steven Moore drove in two runs for the Eagles.
Sat 3/23: Sweep! The C-Team swept Ballard in a doubleheader at IHS by scores of 12-2 and 7-3. In Game 1, Chandler Tuupo pitched 4 strong innings and Nick Imler closed out the game on the mound. Henry Hess, Marcus Buyco and Chase Nagel each drove in two runs. In Game 2, Kellen Odegard, Max Goldberg and Chase Nagel combined to stifle the Beavers bats. Chandler Tuupo drove in 2 runs for the Eagles.

BOYS’ SOCCER
The three men's soccer teams continued their unbeaten streak into the third week of action with 6 wins across the three teams. The JVC team sits at the top of the table with an impressive 24 goals scored and 12 points. The JV and Varsity teams sit tied for first with Redmond in conference standing with 3 wins and 9 points.
Varsity, 3-0 KingCo: Win against Woodinville, 3-0. Gavin Herman got the Eagles on the board in the first minute of play when a long ball at kick off was passed off from Ryan Barrett to Gavin in the box for the finish. The Eagles missed good chances to score three more goals in the next 20 minutes. The Eagles converted off a corner kick with 17 minutes left in the half when Harrison Oen flicked the ball back into the box and Jack Higgins headed it in to make it 2-0. Six minutes later, Taiga Crewnshaw added to the Eagles lead with a goal and assist from Cameron Kovats to finish the half 3-0. The Eagles defense kept strong in the second half to keep the clean sheet and record the 3-0 win.
Win against Bothell, 3-0. The Eagles took advantage of a foul that Dawson Oen drew at the 20 eight minutes into the start of the game. Josh Lee took the free kick and Cameron Kovats headed it in for the goal to take the 1-0 lead. The Eagles created multiple chances in the first half, but could not convert and finished the half at 1-0. Gavin Herman got the Eagles their second goal when Taiga Crenshaw passed the ball wide to Paolo Fichera who crossed it into the box and Gavin tapped it in to make it 2-0. Taiga Crenshaw added to the Eagles lead two minutes later with a shot from the 20 that hit the upper left corner of the box to finish the game with a 3-0 win.
Junior Varsity, 3-0 KingCo, Beautiful Tuesday night win against Woodinville, 3-1. Within the first 15 minutes of play Issaquah scores off an assist from Eli Lazar with a beautiful left footed chip into the corner of the net by Karel “Kas" Bakker. Ending the first half 1-0, then starting the second with plenty of corner kick opportunities made this game a thrill to watch. With just 21 minutes left on the clock #12 Warren Singer drives in a goal from a cross and puts the Eagles up 2-1. The Eagles keep the momentum going with 10 minutes left as #9 Zander Schock scores in a crowded box at the back of the net.
Thursday; Dominating win away against Bothell, 5-0. Kas Bakker scored two back to back goals within the first half of play. The Cougars try to fire back with an exciting off the crossbar ball that bounces back to the ground and is captured by keeper Alex Lau. With seconds left at the end of the first half, Jack Smith’s power left kick scores to put the Eagles up 3-0. Plenty of exciting opportunities in the second half as #14 Alex Amedson receives a penalty kick, that’s first called back, then blocked on a second attempt, then finally finds its way into the goal with a scramble at the net to put the Eagles up 4-0. With 28:40 left on the clock another great save by Alex Lau from serious pressure in the box keeps the boys at a strong lead. Our Eagles finish their scoring run at 22:16 when #6 Jack Smith takes advantage of a blocked shot that is forced back into play and can’t be stopped by the Cougars keeper.
JVC, 4-0 KingCo: Monday; Win against Skyline, 2-1. JVC team remains undefeated. Eight minutes in, Josh Kroker assisted Jean Pierre to score the first goal. With 15 minutes left in the first half a Skyline player took a long strike on goal, but IHS goalkeeper Sean Patterson made a great save to keep IHS ahead 1-0. With 8 minutes left in the half Sharif Lacasse slotted a through ball to Jean Pierre who dribbled past the goalie and scored his second goal. 12 minutes into second half IHS goalkeeper Sean Patterson made another great save; however, with just under twenty minutes remaining in the game Skyline scored to make it 2-1. The last twenty minutes both teams battled; however, IHS was able to hold on and secure the 2-1 victory.
Wednesday; Win beat Sammamish at home, 7-2. A cross from Daniel Quarshie to Jean Pierre started off the scoring. A few minutes later Daniel again crossed the ball to Jean Pierre who scored his second goal. Sharif Lacasse then assisted on a goal by Daniel as IHS went up 3-0. Jean Pierre scored his 3rd goal off a corner kick from Josh Kroker. Vivek Chilakala then scored off a rebound to make it 5-0 at halftime. Sammamish scored the next two goals to cut the lead to 5-2. Sharif Lacasse then scored to increase the lead to 6-2. Finally, Sharif scored again, assisted by Josh for a final score of 7-2.
